Warfarin and Ascorbic Acid: Lack of Evidence for a Drug Interaction. WEINTRAUB, M. AND GRINER, P. F. (1974). Toxicol. Appl. Pharmacol. 28, 53-56. The effects of high-dose ascorbic acid on warfarin-induced hypoprothrombinemia and clotting factor activity kinetics were studied in healthy dogs. The biologic half-life and rates of synthesis of these factors were unaffected by ascorbic acid. No changes were noted in the prothrombin times of animals chronically treated with anticoagulants or in the concentration of factors lI and factors VII/X complex in these dogs. These investigations do not support a postulated significant drug interaction between warfarin and ascorbic acid.
